Special Exhibition
"Ono Chikkyo 120 Years After His Birth"

This retrospective exhibition celebrates on an unprecedented scale the 120th anniversary of the birth of Ono Chikkyo, with a display of 150 of his works. Chikkyo, who was born in Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, studied under Takeuchi Seiho in Kyoto. His style was strongly influenced initially by modern Western pictures and he then expressed himself gently by the use of line drawings and subtle tints. Later on, he developed a unique landscaping style, notable for its use of vibrant colors. He always portrayed living nature, focusing throughout his life on the passing seasons. Visitors can enjoy the art of Chikkyo, whose work evokes the rustic beauty of nature in Japan.
