Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art (075-771-4107)
This museum of art was established in 1933 as the second municipal museum in Japan. It houses some 2,300 paintings and craft works from the Meiji Period, mainly by artists associated with Kyoto. Exhibitions of its permanent collection are held four times a year.
Masterpieces from the Permanent Collection 3:"The Fleeting and Transient"
Many examples of ephemera, including short-lived cherry blossoms and insects, evanescent natural phenomena such as haze, fog and rainbows, and passing scenes created from light and shadow, are frequently found in Japanese art. This exhibition illustrates ephemeral aspects of beauty with the aid of images found within the museum's collection, for example in works by Kagaku Murakami, Yoson Ikeda and Noboru Kitawaki.
