HIMEJI CITY MUSEUM OF ART (079-222-2288)

Himeji City's Museum of Art, formerly an army warehouse, is a much-loved red brick building, set against the background of Himeji Castle (a National Treasure). In addition to permanent exhibitions of works from the collection, special exhibitions take place six times a year.

"The Kawase Hasui Exhibition:
Landscape woodblock printmaker of the Taisho and Showa Periods"

Early in the Taisho period, a new woodblock print movement emerged, which revised existing methods and introduced fresh perspectives, while maintaining the traditional techniques seen in Ukiyoe and elsewhere. The exhibition presents some 250 works selected from the artist?s output of some six hundred. These works will be displayed during two periods. (About 130 works for each period)

Himeji Castle (The World Cultural Heritage) is a wooden castle structure of incomparable worth in the world, and that the whole structure including towers, stone ramparts, and earthern walls are the best preserved. Himeji Castle was constructed in the early 17th century.
