Exhibition hSeventy Years Later: Sugimoto Tetsuro's
Reproduction of Ajanta and Sigiriya Cave Paintingsh
The painter Sugimoto Tetsuro (1899-1985) completed the reproduction of the wall paintings in the Ajanta and Sigiriya caves from 1937 to 1938C becoming the first foreigner to undertake this great task. After returning to JapanC his exhibition took place at the Imperial Gift Museum of Kyoto (later renamed the Kyoto National Museum) and stunned the viewers. He later donated his works to the museum. This sensational moment will come back after seventy years.

Exhibition hSakamoto Ryomah
This exhibition displays pieces owned by Sakamoto Ryoma (1835-1867)C one of the revolutionary heroes in the Bakumatsu (end of the Tokugawa government) eraC from museum collection. Highlights exhibits are his handwritten letters (Important Cultural Property) that reveal his characterC including the one describing his honeymoon with illustrations to his family in Tosa. Related manuscripts in the bakumatsu era will also be on display.
